Since I'm finishing up a couple of coloring projects I figure I finally put this one up too. This is the cover for another comic I have in the works, Egoraven: Heir of the First Unicorn. I plan to have the first issue done by the end of the year although to those of you who know me I can hear your giggling from here.
I'm a bad planner when it comes to my comic work. Okay.
Anyway, this is the cover I was working on - this project was a bit unusual because I did all the characters separately (which you can see in my gallery) then put them together. I never did that before and I'm not quite happy with the results. In the end the characters work well as individual pieces but together like this doesn't really click for me right now. I'll probably redo the cover properly once I get to to the layout stage of the comic itself.
Also, my monitor is driving me crazy with the colors being off and what not. I may have to upgrade my drivers or my graphics card. I hate doing all this work just to have everything wash out when I put it up on the PC. At least everything prints out correctly so I know my colors aren't really off. But it makes working on my main computer tricky.
I think I see what you mean by them not coming together as a group the way they are. The layout is a little busy and disjointed, somehow.
But the component artworks themselves are wonderful and the colors work beautifully, so don't be too discouraged because the work is really quite good.
I'm not sure on working on individual characters and put them together, it does seem fine here. So long as the character art sizes are not too different from the originals, it should work.
Looks great I really couldn't tell much difference between this and your usual (aside from the fact that I recognized some of the pieces of the picture ), so I guess the 'complied' effect works pretty well! I like this one!
Out of curiosity... About how long does it take for you to lay out and pencil a page in a comic? I'm trying to get into making comics myself, and I'd love a point of reference. Right now, I think the amount of time I spend is a little too little, especially for a newbie.
Layouts are the worst for me. Translating Jose's brief descriptions and dialogue into a workable, well-timed scene (and we're talking really loose sketching here) can take me a full day (the average scene ranges between 4-6 pages). This is where I spend a LOT of time going through books for reference and inspiration. I'm working on issue 20 right now and it's taking me a while to get the layouts right. There are a lot of talking scenes and I don't want those pages to be boring. (Not everything can be action packed!)
Ha! You think you spend too little time. I think I spend too much! It can take me several months just to do one issue but that's because I'm a poor time planner. I'm way behind on my comic schedule for San Diego so I think I'm a bad influence right now.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
